Just because something is "natural" it does not mean it is safe to take randomly especially in a person who is sick.

Some of the worst stories I've heard have been from those who probably had a heavy metal problem and used cilantro.

Never heard that ALA is problematic with hypoglycemia. Have heard of people lowering dose of medicine while on ALA for a year or so.
