I was tested for Vitamin D and found I had a slight deficiency two years ago (27 ng/mL whereas a 2005 study shows a lower healthy limit of 32 ng/mL).
Since then, I have made an effort to get more sun and take cod liver oil supplements (300IU/day) during the dark winters of the Northwest US. Haven't tested my levels since, but this is a factor I think many of us need to rule out. Also, it doesn't hurt that Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption which is vital for bone health, and also helps modulate cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduces inflammation. As with just about anything, too high a dose is toxic (and makes it a great rodenticide) so please don't overdo it.
Peace,
C.S.
