The French Green Clay should work just as well. If you're going to swallow it make sure it's food grade, otherwise just rinse it out when you're done.

When I had a recent tooth infection and abscess (my tooth was literally in pieces) I diluted the powdered clay to a thick consistancy and literally packed it on to the inflamed and abscessed areas.

When I finally made it to the dentist, he couldn't believe I wasn't in any pain and was able to last the weekend without being seen. I didn't bother mentioning that it had been like that for over a month...
