Hello grassman,
I'm picking up on some unhealthy vibes from you and your arguments seem inappropriately defensive. Please refer to the original post in this thread to see why I'm discussing Furhman's diet at all. I've not started this to attack anyone but to give vorius ideas on why he is not getting results from the program.
Far from separating my ideals from other hygienists, I'm trying to make sense of the many variations of NH that seem to exist. There are many people who call themselves Natural Hygienists but who've lost sight of the principles and Science that underpin it. They see clients having difficulties with the diet and conclude that the diet is at fault instead of looking deeper for the cause.
Dr Vetrano makes a very good point about this as part of the ongoing discussion about Vitamin B-12 supplementation:
"We are in a world that is rapidly deteriorating. We are turning out children who are sickly and who have very little vitality. Because of the environmental pollution, they are sometimes lacking in digestive enzymes as well as one or more enzymes or hormones that are absolutely essential for health and sometimes life. You can't blame Hygiene for this deterioration. The fault lies not in Hygiene, whose principles are eternally true, but in our wrong way of living and our polluted environment. How quick we are to point the finger at Hygiene and say; "It's lacking. It must be changed. We must go forward. Hygiene must not be stifled." I do not call sticking to basic principles being stifled. If someone feels he or she is dusting antiques when upholding the principles of Natural Hygiene then he or she doesn't understand Hygiene, or he or she is looking for ways to compromise."

Back to beans, the fact that people may consume 18 million tons of beans each year pales into significance next to 704 millions of tons of milk production yet cow's milk is one of the most toxic products we can ingest even if consumed raw.
Garlic was only one of the many medicines that medical doctors used to employ before they outgrew them with their synthetic, factory-produced, controlled-dosage versions. What's the difference between medical doctors prescribing medicines and herbalist prescribing medicines? Nothing! They're both trying to poison the sick back to health.
Fruits, including non-sweet fruits such as cucumbers and tomatoes, are easily digested and assimilated as long as they're not held up by hard to digest foods. The same holds true for lettuce, Celery and tender, succulent, non-starchy vegetables. The fiber from these foods is minimal but sufficient for our needs, and will normally pass through the system in about 30 hours whilst the meats, beans, cooked foods, and poorly combined meals can take 3 days. That's a lot of time for bacteria to get their teeth stuck in.
On a side note, it grieves me terribly when I see survivors of disasters being given bags of grain to feed themselves. I know that this grain will have been bought at top dollar by government or charity funds, it will be difficult for homeless people to cook, useless in it's uncooked state and deleterious when consumed. It's sickening in every sense of the word!!!
I hope that I've resolved any concerns that you might have had and helped you realise that I'm not a threat to your beliefs nor that of Dr Furhman or any of his other followers.
Regards,
NH...
