agree with what is being said here.
I use ecover when I can afford it or some other home store brands which are non- biological and claim suitability to chemical sensitivity - also I dilute it 50/50 with soda crystals which lessens exposure to these chemicals too and often adding a tablespoon of borax salt.

avoid fabric conditioners at all costs as you may as well use engine oil! as previously mentioned white vinegar is an excellent softener.
