Cutler has not seen a problem with copper buildup while on his protocol. Veteran group members suggest to new members that they get a hair test in part to look for very high copper. It typically only takes a couple of months to get it down to reasonable levels and they often just use DMSA or DMPS during that time.
Cutler says that when he was putting together his protocol he based it on protocols in the standard med text books. Traditionally oral chelation has been done in rounds. He did not have any reason to do anything different at the time.
My understanding is that the time off was in part due to concerns about copper; however, now I suspect it is largely to give the person a chance to deal with the sfx from the redistribution of HMs from the last dose of the round.
3 hrs for ALA works well for most. Some can tolerate a little longer, especially overnight. Some, myself included, like the effect of taking doses more frequently.
