Can Iodine help athletes in any way?

My story is mycotoxins (thanks to toxic mold) has taken me out of sports for quite a while but my heart still bleeds for my sports. I miss training everyday and all the hope I had for myself athletic-wise. If I am lucky to be able to push myself again will being on Iodine possibly give me any advantages?
