Im so happy I found this site. All the other information on the www talks about the horribly painful experience this is. Mine was uncomfortable and scary, but now is so much better. I am 39 years old. I went to see my obgyn because I had a terrible discomfort. There was no obvious marble sized lump, just a swelling, redness, and irritation on my left labia. I lived in fear for a couple of weeks that I had contracted an std from my unfaithful husband. Everytime I googled my symtoms, I found references to herpes! UGHH! but never saw lesions or blisters. My first visit to my ob, the young doc said it was a fungal infetion and prescribed me a cream for 7 days. When that didnt work, I was sure I had an std. SO I went back to my regular, older, more experieced obgyn, and he diagnosed the bartholins gland cyst right away, gave me Antibiotics and sent me home. A week later, I could still feel the swelling. It was still uncomfortable, so I tried the warm baths and hot compresses. ANd wouldnt you know, the hot compress was all it took to make my cyst burst. It was a small one, and I felt so much better. NOw that I am aware of these little buggers, I am going to take weekely hot baths so those ducts dont get blocked again. My doctor told me if the swelling didnt go down on its own, that he would just remove them. Lancing and marsup, he said, was a waste of time. Remove them and youll be problem free. Luckily I didnt have to go that route. Good luck to you all. I know how awful these can be.
