I very rarely use antacids now but I needed them daily for a long time. The first major supplement I tried was betaine HCl. I used that for over a year, and while it did many good things it never broke the reflux/antacid cycle. When I became convinced I had a candida problem, jumped on a strict candida diet and within 10 days the reflux stopped. In my mind there is very definitely a link between sugar+flour and acid reflux. Whether candida plays a role in this for EVERYone, not sure. (There are some knowledgeable people like HV whose view is that it's yeast fermentation in the gut that gives off gas which forces open the lower esophageal sphincter, taking traces of acid up with it. //www.curezone.org/forums/fm.asp?i=1545477#i
To manage both your problems at the same time, I highly recommend cabbage. Chop it up, boil it and eat it, and just as importantly--drink the water. It's a known ulcer remedy and it's also anti-candida. It has a neutral-ish pH. When I eat too many sweets and feel like heartburn might be coming on, a little cabbage nips it in the bud. I always have some in the fridge either boiled or sauerkraut (SK would be too acidic for you right now).
Also, why so firmly convinced that mercury is what's holding you back? The mind leads and the body follows... What if you get all your Amalgams taken out and the candida challenge isn't any easier? Keep trying to do the right thing diet-wise, leading up to your dental appointment. If it were me I would only get a couple Amalgams taken out at a time. Mercury redistributes in the body and a lot at once is tough on the body.
