SSRI’s can bump up the immune system, triggering an auto-immune response. So the endocrine system can get self-attacked. A person can have adrenal collapse from use of stimulants like caffeine or nicotine; exposure to loud noises; long-term childhood stress; high Sugar intake/levels; or inherent genetic adrenal weakness; may experience signs of adrenal insufficiency. This includes anxiety, panic, general distress, breathing that feels shallower and less refreshing, along with cooler hands and feet. Feed adrenals with good fats from well-marbled organic meat; raw oils except flax which block Iodine to the thyroid; mineral salts including table salt but more on the order of kelp and any phyto-minerals; all while avoiding sugar, stimulants and stressors. Supplement with DHEA.
Taking an SSRI can stimulate the immune system to the point where the body attacks itself. So those stressed adrenals, for example, function even less. Thyroid function can be inhibited. Thyroid function is extremely hard to gauge from conventional testing but low body temperature may be one sign. Other glands can be compromised by a kind of sub-acute auto-immune response. It may be necessary to inhibit the auto-immune response with something like VLD/Very Low Dose Prednisone taken in intermittent courses while building back the body's systems. Then supplement with DHEA, an over-the-counter adrenal hormone, to get the adrenals mastering their many functions as a good foundation for further recovery.
DHEA should be taken at intervals to keep the adrenal glands functioning by themselves as much as possible. DHEA should be taken in a 5-10 mg dose by females unless under extreme physiological stress, i.e., drug reaction or other unusual stressors. Take DHEA when signs of anxiety surface and if a positive response is felt in 20-30 minutes, adrenal insufficiency is self-diagnosed. Males can tolerate larger doses of DHEA, 10-25mg. If DHEA is to be used by females on a long-term basis, the KETO-7 form of DHEA is preferred as it will not form other hormones, like testosterone that can lead to deepening the voice and other effects.
There is a weak link to thyroid dysfunction and SSRI’s, but the immune over-response is likely compromising the full functioning of the thyroid. The weak link with thyroid dysfunction isn’t across the full spectrum of thyroid factors, but the thyroid functions best when all the T-factors are up to proper levels. One of the side effects of the SSRI Citalopram, for example, is lessened sexua| response. This effect can last for months or years after discontinuing Citalopram. This suggests the auto-immune response causing Polyendocrine Syndrome, Schmidt's Syndrome, an overall attack on bodily systems. One caveat is that if thyroid therapy, especially that bypassing the full-spectrum of factors which are not available in synthetic thyroxin, creates adverse reactions, the adrenals are not up to par. So treat the adrenals with DHEA/KETO-7 before engaging in corrective thyroid measures.
Treating Candidiasis/yeast colonies in the guts after any Antibiotic use however far in the past is central to maintaining good health, especially mental well-being, as over 70% of the mid-brain chemicals are created and have feedback receptors in the gastro-intestinal tract. SEE: "You're Nuts Because of Your Guts." Take silver colloid, undecylenic acid (Natrol's anti-Candida formula has this) and/or caprylic acid to keep Candida levels low; and supplement with a good broad-spectrum pro-biotic. May God bless us all with radiant health and His abundant life.
