How thin you become is not a good marker for avoiding starvation, as even the obese can reach that point.

Everything depends on the quality of your general food reserves as opposed to just fat reserves.

The most common and likely deficiency during a protracted fast is electrolytes or mineral reserves, but in essence the only reliable marker in the avoidance of starvation is the return of natural and genuine hunger.
It has been known that even when the skeleton condition has almost been reached, genuine hunger has then returned, but up to this point it would be strongly advised to have professional and experienced supervision from one who is knowledgeable about the fasting process.

In today's nutrient-depleted soils and therefore nutrient-depleted foods, we cannot expect to fast safely for as long as did our forebears, whose food quality was much better than it is today.
Everything but everything depends on the quality and quantity of our internal food reserves as to how long we can safely fast.
