Hello all,
I'm unsure when the forum on this subject began but as it will continue to be an issue for women in future I've decided to post this response.
I am 40 and have had incredibly painful periods (so bad requiring hospitalisation and shots of pethadeine) since they began when I was 11. I have had 3 laparoscopic procedures, age 23, 25 and 36 to treat endometriosis but even after the procedures continued to experience the same debilitating pain. The only thing that brought relief was taking the pill without breaks-suggested by my surgeon, as this would slow down/cease the endometriosis to grow back. This seems to have helped as (age36) my last procedure showed I had no recurrence of endo but that didn't explain why the pain continues to this day, it was instead discovered I had fibroids. How long they (3) had been there I am unsure and at age 38 underwent a precedure called a focus guided ultrasound to heat and distroy the fibroids, but again not only is the pain still debilitating I now find I bleed from my urethra and the surgeon suspects this is endometriosis within that area. I have not had children so cannot attest to symptoms or problems arising from pregnancy and due to my age am considering partial hystorectomy or the insertion of the mirena coil which I've been told improves greatly pain caused by periods (as the pill now makes me quite I'll). I hope that women shall continue to share their stories with other women and if anything I hope that those of you who suffer severe pain like me will be encouraged to ask and insist on getting answers to their questions and be relentless in doing so and perhaps in reading this be a little more informed about what could be the underlying problem and/or cause and not take what they are being told at face value. I don't have the answers yet for the cause of my continued pain, I've had every embarrassing examination you can imagine and even sought out Chinese medicine, which did help to some extent.
I wish all women health and peace of mind and remember to insist your doctor/gyno listens to you and responds satisfactorily to your questions, I may not have known the questions to ask in the beginning but we learn by reading forums like this one and trust me not only am I still asking questions, I am demanding to know what the experts plan on doing about it to improve my quality of life!
