goodcalluk, definitely listen to your doctor's advice. It took me a year to figure out that it was SOLELY the toothpaste I'd been using that was causing this (it was actually SLS free) I suspected fluoride, but it could be anything as some of the ingredients aren't listed (like bonding agents). Needless to say I'm still healing from the condition. It's been a little over a month and the progress has been slow but promising. I left my lips alone completely aside from occasional olive oil. After 10 days, the dead skin was ready to come off my lips. My top lip is completely healed (no peeling for 3 weeks). The bottom lip is a bit trickier. It peeled once then didn't for a few weeks and then started peeling again. However, it seemed to peel further down the lip the 2nd time around and I BELIEVE this will be the end of it. I think that healing depends on the person and how long you've been exposed. I highly recommend avoiding ointments and forcefully peeling the dead skin off as this causes more irritation. It's not gonna be pretty, but you can be cured
