So, bottom line -- and this is not yet very clear to me -- is it alright for a cancer patient to eat sweet fruits in moderation?

In moderation, yes.  And do not juice them since most juicers remove the fiber, which slows the absorption of sugars.  Therefore, eating the whole fruits will not shoot the blood sugar up the way juices can.
