I've recently purchased an ozone generator for odor in the home. We live in a 100 yr old home, I'm convinced we have some type of mold/mildew, although my spouse thinks I'm crazy. I especially smell it in anything soft/permeable, like pillows on the sofa and especially in the bedding upstairs.

I stuffed the pillows, sheets, and big down comforter in the closet and "shocked" everything for about 20 min. I've taken out the bedding, and can still smell the ozone in the bedding, even after 3 weeks.

I also tried putting some stinky sheets and an obviously mildewy smelling nylon bag (as an experiment) in a plastic bag, and ozonated it on and off 10 mins, about 5 times. The sheets STILL smell like ozone after washing them, and the mildewy bag still smells like mildew.

And, oh yes, also put an experimental stinky armpit shirt in the bag and still smells like stinky armpits, so to me it did not kill the bacteria either!

I feel like I have either been duped with my purchase or am not understanding something about ozone. Why on earth would I still smell it after all these weeks in the comfortor and pillows, when from everything I've read it dissipates quickly? Why didn't it elimate the mildew smell in the experimental nylon bag or stinky armpit shirt? Maybe I'm not smelling ozone ... I've read it is supposed to smell fresh but to me it certainly stinks?

The machine I purchased is a 5000 mg/hr corona unit from here:

Many thanks.
