It would be useful to know where the ubiquitous Bay Leaf Tree (Laurus nobilis) stands in regards to the benefits mentioned.
This is extremely easy to grow, looks great, and seems immune to insect pests and plant diseases. When I take Habanero pepper plants inside for the winter, by early spring they usually develop nasty cases of mites or aphids of some kind. But the Bay tree that stands in the center the row (under the picture window) never shows a one of the little pests.

Info found online did say that the Bay is victimized by such insects, but our 15-year-old specimen has never had these problems.

Bay leaves are also good for cooking and allegedly for keeping bugs, moths, and weevles out of your stored grain and flour. They're also alleged to keep moths out of your stored woolen cloths.
