hi all

just a point regarding skin issues such as SD/dry skin/eczema. There are a good deal of studies and literature regarding the link between diabetes and skin issues. Ask your Doctor, why not? It's YOUR health!! Don't take no for an answer! and take charge. I wish I had of...

Here! read this:

Where does the skin come into this?

Here read this as a starter:

And below too, if you wish...

I am diabetic and have been for some time now. Diabetes is a disease where the body is unable to utilize/store Sugar effectively. Basically what I tell people to explain what Diabetes is is this:

When you eat your body breaks down all the food in stages through from your mouth to your intestines and it pulls up nutrients/minearls/vitamins into your blood stream to be delivered to different parts of your body. The hormone insulin released by your pancreas "grabs" the circulating Sugar and stores it. Some of it to your liver, some of it to your muscles, etc. Here is the problem: in diabetics there is too much Sugar circulating in your circulatory sytem because there isn't enough insulin to store it (your pancreas isn't producing enough...type 1 diabetic) or you are insulin resistant (your too fat or you are genetically prone to this or both...type 2 diabetic).

In short this affects your body by damaging your blood vessels, makes you more prone to infections, lowers immunity, and effectively can deplete vitamins and minerals (B vitamins/zinc etc). This, in my opinion makes a person more prone to skin problems.

Note: I am not a Doctor nor do I claim to be.

Best of luck with managing this.

DG
