It was crazy. I'd go to the doc's, the nurse would take my bp and it would be soaring: 156/80. I didn't feel ill (they say you don't), but I felt, I KNEW, this wasn't me. But I didn't know what to do: did the exercise, the meditation, the cutting of salt, the everything. And it's not as if I had been living an unhealthy lifestyle. "I'm vegetarian!" I cried. And I was already doing the exercise, etc.
Ever feel your body just doesn't listen to you?
Turns out I wasn't listening to my body.
Long story short, for a separate and clinically unrelated reason I started a modified paleo diet. For me this meant cutting all the refined stuff (you know bread, pasta and those staples of the healthy, down-to-earth lifestyle). For good measure I dropped other grains beside wheat: corn, rice, oatmeal (oatmeal! it's supposed to be "heart healthy". I'd eat enough to drown a cow.) and little things like KitKat bars.
What I was eating: shrimp, eggs, fish, cottage cheese, yogurt (whole, plain); whey protein shakes that I made with unsweetened "So Delicious" coconut milk (I add this little commercial for them because the product is just so very good. I am not affiliated with them.)And plain veggies. A very good dish I discovered was riced cauliflower (you mash it up so it's rice-y) with whole yogurt and fresh chopped cilantro; also avocados, lots of those, and nuts of all sorts. And a few berries.
I dropped 14 lbs like nobody's business. But I wasn't heavy to begin with: 139 -> 125. (This, too, was a side effect of what I'd adopted this diet for.)
I went to the doc for a heavy duty (i.e., swollen eye) sinus infection and while there, of course, doc took my BP.
I never even look or ask.
He said, "Great blood pressure."
I said, "What is it?" (with trepidation).
"110/70"
I said, "can I have that in writing on one of your Rx sheets?"
He said, "I'll put it up on a marquee if you like."
So, there you go. Since then I've been reading the tiniest bit about the paleo diet. I realized this is what I was doing without knowing it.
So, now I just keep doing it.
I really think this is the key for many people who are suffering from "idiopathic high bp".
It's not you. You're not a bad or anxious person. It's the food you've been eating thinking it's actually good for you.
That's it. That's my story. I hope it helps a bunch of you guys. Oh, P.S. it happens REALLY fast. Start paleo today and you could have much lowered bp in 2 weeks. Just please do not cheat. Very important. Do not cheat!!!!!!
Feel free to ask questions. But everything is already here.
