Notably, the very same big pharma backed group published a study in April of this year which said that there was no increased risk for breast cancer due to soy consumption. Yet earlier they had the above study which said there was a decreased risk. A bit of a flip flop it would appear. Never fear, though, the next study will probably say that soy is a cure for breast cancer.
The only way that study you posted could indicate that increased soy consumption reduced the risks of breast cancer would be to compare groups of people whose diets and lifestyles were virtually identical with the exception of increased soy consumption. Otherwise, such assumptions are likely to be seriously flawed. We see much the same in studies comparing meat eaters and vegetarians.
Many people choose to consume soy products such as soy milk and tofu because they have fallen for the hype of the multi-billion dollar soy industry about how healthy soy is. Nevertheless, many soy consumers also follow genuninely healthy practices such as avoiding smoking, leading a more active lifestyle and consuming more healthy foods in general, including plenty of vegetables and fruits.
Despite the soy industry's hype, the fact is tht non-fermented soy is decidedly dangerous and the vast majority of soy is GMO soy. Thus it may be likely that if two identical groups with the exception of soy were compared the results might be quite different.
