Yup..I think you explained it rather well.
And when your Amygdala does respond, mindfulness can help you notice the pattern developing and then stop it.
Even the Dali Lama....who is probably pretty good at meditation ;) says that he does get angry, but not for long.
You notice the anger like an outside observer. As soon as you do that, you disarm it and it melts away.
