I don't believe I said though that disputes should be squashed or not even occur, because they are part and parcel of human nature; the main point to consider is in the conduct of those who participate. A divorce for example can be acrimonious, but it can also be a civilized and congenial experience, and the choice of those involved.
The Webmasters solution to acrimonious disputes is drastic and final, so nothing really very superficial about that; my own proposals are those that are seen in diplomatic and political circles the World over as the only way forward: the coming together of those involved and approaching any differences with a more open and tolerant mindset. I would hardly describe this as being superficial or/and ignorant, but more in the way of ones maturity and humility.
I agree with your back to basics with self-examination, with differences being properly understood, but this is also very much to do with maturity and humility acting as a catalyst to that end.
Manners, although useful, have very little to do with my original suggestions.
