Welcome to CureZone. I can't answer questions about surgery, as I have (so far) ignored dr's advice to have my gallbladder removed. I had a pretty severe gallbladder attack in late June, but have managed with dietary changes since then. I started off with an extremely low fat diet, but have added fats back since then. I don't go crazy with fatty foods, but I eat pretty much what I want otherwise.
I've been all over the internet looking for natural remedies, and this is a brief rundown of what I've found:
There seems to be correlation between magnesium deficiency and gallstones. You may find that Epsom Salt baths ( Epsom Salt = magnesium sulfate) help relieve symptoms (works like a charm for me) - 1 or 2 cups of Epsom Salts in a hot bath. You can take Epsom Salt orally, but it tastes really nasty (mixing with lemon juice helps a little), and some people say it can mess up your electrolyte balance if you do it too often (I did that, and the symptoms were similar to gallbladder attack, only Gatorade relieved them). Milk of Magnesia is another possibility (I hear the cherry flavor isn't bad, but mint is nasty).
Magnesium is central to the chlorophyll molecule, as iron is to hemoglobin, so green vegetables are also sources. Magnesium has a laxative effect, so you may want to sneak up on the correct level of supplementation.
The other thing that may help prevent Gallstones is lecithin. Egg yolks contain lecithin, but for serious supplementation, I use soy lecithin granules.
There are forums here devoted to gallbladder remedies and liver flushing. It took me awhile to work up courage to try flushing after my gallbladder attack, but I had no pain from it. I'm sure I need to repeat it several more times.
I sympathize with what you're going through. I hope these suggestions help you relieve your discomfort. It's a miserable thing to go through.
