What's a salt push?

My chiro only has ProThera Iodine (12.5mg). http://www.protherainc.com/prod/proddetail.asp?ID=IDN


Is this a good product? I was warned by someone that potassium Iodide is dangerous.... he knew 3 people who were hospitalized b/c it stirred up heavy metals and redeposited them, causing major reactions... is this true?
