According to Dr. J, it is much better to take the sublingual (oral) progesterone rather than the creams. With the creams, you can't avoid too much soaking in at once, etc...and that is why so many women have such great luck with it for a couple of weeks and then they feel even worse than before.
The bioidentical progesterone that he has me on is called Progon B...they are little pellets that you put under your tongue and then swallow. I have had a lot of relief with it!
Actually the difference between transdermal and oral progesterone is the path they take. Transdermal progesterone creams are applied to the fatty areas of the body for a reason. As the progesterone absorbs through the skin the progesterone traps in the fat cells where it is then slowly released in to the bloodstream. But this also increases the risk of progesterone dominance, especially when used long term. When taken orally the progesterone passes soon through the liver where much of the progesterone is metabolized. So there is less progesterone available to cause problems.
Women should be aware of the side effects of progesterone. These include cancer, weight gain, acne, hyperaggression, insomnia, depression, increased risk of gallstones and lack of libido:
