I hate to jump in on this deep political and philosophical discussion, but I just wanted to point out that gum troubles are a common symptom of heavy metal problems. Another possible symptom could be sensitivity to fluoride. I think it's especially possible if you have or have ever had silver fillings but there are other metals and other sources.

Actually, it's possible that you are only sensitive to fluoride. Since it's in the water supply, it would be hard to avoid (even if you don't drink the water since water gets into our food in so many ways).

Are you sure your gums were receding when you took the tonic? If your gums have become semi-permanently puffy, then it's possible that the gums returning to normal may look like they are receding. I can't see your gums, so I couldn't say if this is true or not. It's just something for you to consider. You might try the tonic again and then talk to your dentist to see if she or he thinks they look better or are receding.
