Hi out there,
I am totally wondering why HEPA carbon/charcoal air filters seem to make me feel horrible?? I had originally bought an expensive Oreck purifier several years back. It took me a day or two to notice but I had this heavy headed, slightly nauseous, dizzy, and just sort of unwell feeling. But the air was clean! I didn't associate it with the purifier until I thought I noticed a natural sort of scent coming from it that I didn't really like. So I turned it off for a few days. What do you know, I felt 100% better with it off. I returned it as soon as i realized it. The sales person at the Oreck store told me that a lot of people say the charcoal makes them feel funny.
Ok, so I thought maybe it was the Oreck and gave the air purifier idea a rest for several years.
So now, with a vague memory of my last experience, I just bought the Hamilton Beach True Air HEPA air purifier based on awesome reviews on amazon (and price). What do you know..I plugged it in and loved the fresh air, only to feel horrible 30 min later! I felt like I had a big weight on my head and felt off. I turned it on low but i didn't subside. I was for sure it was the filter this time so I turned it off. It took several hours but I finally felt normal and the air was light again.
Looked up the filter online (cuz they don't even mention it in the instruction manual!) and found out there was..what do you know..carbon!!
Kept searching and apparently there is no such thing made as a NON carbon/charcoal air purifier! Ugh!!
Apparently, the Ionic ones are usually the culprits for making people feel ill because of the ozone levels emitted. But this one is a HEPA.
I tried researching my reaction on good ol Google but there was only one person I could find that had that sort of reaction! The person who answered her gave no helpful info saying the HEPA ones don't do that. BUT THEY DO..This HAS to be more common that just a couple random people with an adverse effect.
Any info for me from your experience?? :)
Thanks so much!!!
