Thank you so much if you read this entire thing, and you want to help a complete stranger out. We're all human, and we all know what it is like to suffer. I'm 24 years old right now and I've been dealing with all of these issues since the 9th grade in highschool - no kid should ever have to go through this. It completely affects every aspect of my life, and my quality of living is poor because of this. If I could help someone out who was suffering by simply giving them some insight, I would do it in a heart beat. Good luck to everyone else out there looking for help as well.
I've been suffering with a wide variety of symptoms since 2001 and I could use some of your expertise.
Preface: I've done years and years of research, I've been to over 50 doctors, dermatologists, you name it. Out of everything I've tried, the only thing that had any impact was changing my diet.
I've been on a variation of the Candida diet twice, both times I lasted about 5 months before I stopped seeing improvements and quit. But both times, a few of my symptoms did improve significantly (you notice more after you stop the diet and the symptoms come back over the next 1-2 months)
One particular symptom that bugs the hell out of me, that I don't see a lot of people posting about is my skin issue.
When on the Candida Diet this condition gets significantly better, let me describe it for you:
My skin on my face when I stop the Candida diet will slowly begin to get more and more oily each and everyday. Eventually I start to notice tiny tiny bumps on my nose where the oil is being produced. The oil feels sticky and thick, and it begins to form little plugs in my pores (almost as if they were tiny grains of rice) In addition to this, my skin will also peel excessively but only where the oil is being produced. For the longest time I thought I had Seborrheic Dermatitis , but it really doesn't match up to it.
To describe the peeling: After I take a shower, if I use my finger tips to rub my nose, layers and layers of skin will gently slough off. It almost resembles a white paste in consistency and texture.
This not only affects my face, but also affects the insides of my ears, and scalp. On my scalp, it does not resemble dandruff. There is not a lot of flaking, but there is a lot of what appears to be hardened sebum and skin at the hair follicle. My hair falls out very easily, and the strands that are falling off all have a hardened piece of this sebum/skin at the base of them. My scalp also itches A LOT. I will wake up in the middle of a good nights rest, to scratch my head. My ears have the same problem my nose/face has - Lots of oil and lots of skin sloughing off)
Another area this thickened sebum affects is my eyes. I've had red, irritated eyes ever since 2001 as well, and I would often get what I use to think were styes. I finally went to an eye doctor recently because I was suffering with a large "stye" on my eye for over two years, and he explained to me that it was actually a chalazion, caused by a blockage of sebum. He said that they are caused by thick sebum (aha! just like my skin) (p.s. the eye problem got significantly worse after going on two courses of Accutane - I think the dryness factor of the 'tane amplified the redness and irritation that already existed due to the thick sebum)
So I need help figuring out how my diet (reintroducing dairy, grains, sugar) affects my skin and eyes. What is it about those foods that would cause my sebum production to increase, and make my skin slough off.
This doesn't seem like a typical Candida symptom discussed on these boards, so it makes me wonder what is actually wrong with me.
Other things I've theorized my symptoms being caused by include: mercury (fillings), not digesting my food properly (I have hiatal hernia), some sort of auto-immune problem (low white blood cell count).
Here is a condensed list of some of my other symptoms if you think any would be related:
- Low white blood cell count (auto-immune? caused by mercury poisoning?caused by candida? caused by poor digestion? at this point i have no idea)
- Gas - burping and flatulence (after eating)
- Brain fog
- Anxiety / Restlessness / tiredness / easily irritated
- Constipation (my stool is broken into tiny little pieces, hard to push out, and causes bleeding because it is so hard coming out)
- Hiatal Hernia
- nasal congestion that you can't blow out
- runny/irritated nose when eating
- the boogers in my nose and really white, solid, and sticky
- post nasal drip (having to cough up and spit out chunks of dried mucus a few times a day, especially in the morning after waking)
- thickened saliva (especially when working out - almost as if dehydrated, but i drink plenty of water)
- White toungue/back of mouth (occasionally on the inside of my cheeks - it will peel off)
-sometimes a soreness in throat after eating
- heart palpitations when working out (especially after eating)
- when drinking alcohol I get drunk very easy and often feel a buzz off of even half a beer (i'm 6 feet tall, male, and weigh 165 pounds - this isn't normal. i use to be able to tolerate alcohol a lot more than this)
-super cold hands
- unusual sweaty (it gets worse when i stop the candida diet)
- waking up everyday feeling hungover and tired, even when i don't drink at all for weeks
-very crusty eyes in the morning after sleeping
- lips are dry (it use to be really bad - look up exfoliative cheilitis), especially sometimes after eating
ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS IN THIS POST, every single damn one, gets progressively worse when I stop the Candida diet. I've done the diet twice, so I know it is not a fluke.
Please help me figure this out - some of the symptoms do not seem Candida related, but are still affected by the diet and I need to figure out what is going on in my body. Doctors have been, up to this point, useless.
Anyone who helps me figure this out, and I actually see progress in my health I will be your BEST FRIEND for the rest of my entire life.
