Thank you Grace for you kindness. I was concerned I had offended you. I'm glad you took my stance so graciously. Your name fits you well. :)

First of all, I do want to make clear that I do believe that God is still doing miracles today. I believe he heals miraculously all the time in physical ways, but also every heart surgery he does to turn a non-believer into a believer is a miracle.
What I don't believe, is that God promises physical healing in this lifetime. I believe He heals when it's his will to do so, when it is what he has purposed, and then sometimes I believe he has another purpose in allowing a sickness or whatever other ailment to remain. So one of the ways I believe the word of faith movement brings harm to people is that it sets them up to judge one another. If someone doesn't get healed, often there is judgement against that person, and they are told they have little faith, when that may not be the case at all.
That is just one of the things that really bothers me about the movement but there are many others. The fact that often this movement is about promising the people all kinds of things from perfect health and wealth to be able to buy expensive cars, houses, etc. if they'll just send in more money, really gets to me too. I know of one woman right now that is so broke but keeps sending money into these preachers on tv thinking she's going to be rich soon.

Also, the word of faith preachers have all kinds of bad theology that just isn't in the bible. For example, T.D Jakes does not teach the basic orthodox christian belief of the trinity. What I see with the word of faith movement is a whole lot of manipulating of scripture to fit their agendas.

But as for the gifts of the spirit, I don't agree with the article on that. I do believe the gifts of the spirit are still active today. I believe we are all gifted by the spirit in unique ways that all make up the body of christ. Refreshed made a post a little while ago about how we are not all feet, not all hands, etc. We have our different roles within the body of christ. That's what I believe.

But that said, I do have a problem with speaking in tongues in churches, because I don't know anywhere where they do it in a way that is biblical. My husband knows much more about that since he grew up pentacostal, so he could explain that a lot more in debth than I could. He comes on here sometimes, so he might get into some of that later.

Anyway, again thank you for handling this so well. I won't be offended by anything you say either. We are all learning. I in no way think I have all truth. Like you said, this could be a learning opportunity for both of us. And I admit too, my knowledge of this whole subject is still very limited.

God be with you too!,
Vektek
