I have herpes whitlow I usually can throw any outbreaks off by taking acyclovir at first signs and then for a few days.

One thing I discovered, that you could try is I got some povidone-iodine out of my first aid kit in desperation once dabbed some on with a q-tip and covered it with a band-aid and much to my surprise it healed the outbreak on my hand up in record time. Within 2 days I had a huge improvement. I think Iodine penetrates well through the skin and that is why this worked so well but it was amazing.
