Hey folks... just read some interesting stuff in a book..."Natural Therapy for your Liver" by Christopher Hobbs, L.Ac.
"...Many Ancient systems of healing recognized the fact that bile is a vital bodily fluid. Throughout the world herbs are commonly taken to restore proper bile flow, for when the bile is stagnant, sadness and disharmony can result. The word melancholy, for instance, comes from the Greek melanos("black") and chole("bile"), or literally "black bile"...
...Any emotions a person feels have a basis in biochemistry. When you feel angry, for instance, a complex mixture of hormones and other chemicals speeds to various parts of your body, readying you for action. Likewise, fear, jealousy, joy, sorrow and all our other emotions have a corresponding chemical reality which can create profound changes in our bodies. And depending on the strength and duration of the emotions, these changes can more or less determine a persons character and outlook on life.
Thus, an important function of the liver, which is just now beginning to be understood, is its role in transforming and removing excess hormones from the blood. When the liver is diseased or functioning poorly, its ability to do this is impaired. Then emotional states which should come and go easily linger far longer than necessary. An environment full of negative or excessive emotions burdens the liver.
Take anger, for instance. According to TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine), anger is associated with the liver and gallbladder...Similarly, in Ayurvedic medicine anger is associated with the fire principal and the liver. Thus in either case someone who is chronically angry angry would be said to have an unhealthy liver or gallbladder.
I am a 46 yr. old, pre-menopausal woman. The last few years my monthly cycle has been an emotional roller coaster. I've felt as though negative emotions (anger, mostly) have just possessed me. I have felt a hostage to these emotions, feeling like I just have to ride 'em out. And I've felt that the next few years of my life would be a bit of an endurance test. I would love to think that faulty liver (hormone) metabolism plays as much a part in this as does "Raging Hormones". I am very excited to have embarked on this journey of healing...
We've all heard the old adage "healthy mind in a healthy body". I would love to hear some stories of emotional healing...:)
