My favorite herb for preventing and dissolving blood clots is dan shen (Chinese red sage root). Don't confuse this with dang shen. Dan shen is a great fibrinolytic, so unlike pharmaceutical blood thinners it will actually dissolve existing blood clots.
Dan shen also has other beneficial effects such as thyroid support, and does not have the dangerous side effects of drugs like Coumadin (Warfarin), which include a significant increase in the risk or stroke and hemorrhage.
Nattokinase, from fermented soy, is also a great choice.
Either way these should be taken on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before meals.
