I just found out tonight that my dad's house was all but destroyed by a fire. Nobody was hurt, but he had no insurance, and it was deemed by police to be an obvious arson.

This is devastating to the family, and I am the only one who can even try and help.

I'm pretty torn up, but amazingly I still don't want to quit the fast. Normally the slightest upset would have sent me to the fridge, but something's different this time. I also went for a run to calm me down. That, too, is unusual.

I have no idea how we're going to get through this, but I guess it's like the fast itself...one day at a time.
