League Joins Pepsi Boycott
Posted by Corrina Gura (June 1, 2011 at 10:18 am)

The Pro-Life Action League invites you to join us in boycotting PepsiCo.

Good tasting beverages should not in any way be developed from the cells of aborted babies. Until Pepsi acknowledges this and drops all ties with Senomyx, pro-lifers must stop buying all Pepsi products.

The Abortion Connection

Children of God for Life (COGFL), an organization devoted to identifying ethical and unethical vaccines, medicines, and other products, discovered in late March a disgusting use of aborted fetal tissue:

Senomyx website states that “The company’s key flavor programs focus on the discovery and development of savory, sweet and salt flavor ingredients that are intended to allow for the reduction of MSG, Sugar and salt in food and beverage products. …Using isolated human taste receptors, we created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor.”

Senomyx notes their collaborators provide them research and development funding plus royalties on sales of products using their flavor ingredients.

“What they do not tell the public is that they are using HEK 293 – human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors“, stated Debi Vinnedge, Executive Director for Children of God for Life, a pro-life watch dog group that has been monitoring the use of aborted fetal material in medical products and cosmetics for years. (emphasis added)

Cells from aborted babies are being used to make our laboratory-created foods more palatable.

Shame on us if we accept such disrespect for human life–the reduction of an unborn baby to cells that tell us whether we’ll like how food tastes.

Companies Respond to the Connection

When notified of this use of aborted baby’s cells, companies responded in a variety of ways.

Campbell’s Soup immediately severed all connections with Senomyx.

Solae lied about working with Senomyx. So did Nestle, which got snotty–then recanted when provided with proof.

Kraft/Cadbury sent the clueless response of: “Our collaboration with Senomyx is to discover novel ingredients that positively impact food flavors, similar to what already is being widely used in foods and beverages today.” To them this obviously justifies the exploitation of a murdered baby.

Pepsi’s Response

The first response COGFL received from Pepsi was that their “collaboration with Senomyx is strictly limited to creating lower-calorie, great tasting beverages for consumers.” When consumers continued to be unhappy despite this “assurance,” Pepsi changed its response.

Pepsi’s second response relied heavily on two logical fallacies–can you spot them?

Unfortunately, there is some misinformation being circulated related to research techniques that have been used for decades by universities, hospitals, government agencies, and private companies around the world. These claims are meant to suggest that human fetal tissue is somehow used in our research. That is both inaccurate and something we would never do or even consider. It also is inaccurate to suggest that tissue or cells somehow are being used as product ingredients.

Give yourself an “A” if you identified 1) the Ad Populum Fallacy, also known as “everybody’s doing it” (also acceptable: appeal to antiquity/tradition) and 2) the Straw Man Fallacy (constructing an inaccurate version of the real argument in order to easily refute it).

Seeing no signs of remorse, COGFL has launched a massive pro-life boycott against PepsiCo, which dozens of pro-life groups have signed on to.
