When it comes to oleander, the combinations of compounds there do more than simply target and kill cancer cells. Those compounds work synergistically to induce normal cellular death via autophagy and apoptosis, prevent the cancer cells from multiplying and also greatly boost the immune system.
I am not sure that I would agree that tumors protect the body from toxins, but certainly there is normally a release of toxins from cancer cell die-offs, similar to a release of toxins from pathogen die-off. It is notable that oleander taken in combination with chemo either eliminates or lessens virtually all side effects associated with chemo - part of which would be due to toxins in the chemo as well as perhaps toxins released from dying cancer cells. Besides the cardiac glycoside oleandrin which the above study identified, oleander exctract also contains a wide variety of other compounds such as quercitin and betasitosterol.
Finally, I would never recommend that oleander or any other single item be relied on by itself to beat cancer. if you take a look at the anti-cancer protocol I suggest you will see that detoxification and many other elements are included:
