If I were you I would print out a page describing the risks involved in taking cipro and show it to your family!
This article states that cipro is NOT the first choice. This is a "buzzle" article, I'm not sure as to the validity of the info, but here ya go:

Fluoroquinolones
The Fluoroquinolones also known as Quinolones are a class of synthetic broad spectrum Antibiotics . Broad spectrum antibiotics are effective in neutralizing varied types of bacteria of both, gram positive and gram negative type. Nalidixic acid was the first type of Fluoroquinolone used in the treatment of urinary tract infections in 1962. Many types of Fluoroquinolones have been developed since then. A second generation Fluoroquinolone called Ciprofloxacin is often used in the treatment of kidney infection. However, this is not generally recommended as the first choice of antibiotics for kidney infection treatment. It is used if the first line of antibiotics fails and the kidney disease is particularly acute. Amoxicillin can also cause a measles-like itchy rash. This occurs particularly in cases where the patient has had no previous exposure to penicillin like antibiotics.

It would be good if you could find more info along those lines. If your doctor will not budge, find another. Remember that YOU are the boss.
NO antibiotics are without risk, I am sure that you know that. Whatever you choose to do, remember that you will have to repopulate your bod with good bacteria because antibiotics kill everything.
I am NOT a doctor and I am NOT looking at your "numbers". What caused you to seek medical attention after having lived with this for so long?
