I am on the phone with my aunt who has macular degeneration. She has lost most of her sight in her left eye and is losing it in her right.
She takes medication for:
Her heart, she has had heart surgery
Lasix, a diuretic
Medication for arthritis for people with allergies (she can't tell me the name)
She had surgery on her eyes back in the 90's and they took cataracs off which improved her vision greatly.
She also has glaucoma in her eyes.
Is there anything she can do to help her vision?
She is 78 years old and has had health problems for years. I am hoping there is something she can do to retain her vision and/or possibly improve what she has now.
The focus needs to be on strengthening the blood vessels and other tissues in the back of the eyes. Silica and natural vitamin C sources are especially important for this. Natural vitamin C sources also help to supply the bioflavonoids quercetin, which breaks down in to rutin, and rutin itself. Rutin helps to strengthen the micro blood vessels in the back of the eye. Dark berries, such as blueberries are especially high in vitamin C and bioflavonoids.
Vitamin C sources will also help with the glaucoma. Coleus forskohlii also helps with dropping the pressure inside the eye, especially when used as eye drops.
Being that she has had heart surgery though make sure she is not on blood thinners, especially Coumadin (Warfarin). Coumadin can contribute to macular degeneration and interacts with many foods and supplements.
Also make sure she is not on any drugs like Lanoxin if she is going to take the coleus forskohlii internally.
