Thanks Nile,
Prior to mirena I was a fit healthy 45yo women (bp avg 132/84) pulse 72 who asked for a tubal ligation and got this delightful little device! Used for 3.5 yrs, no weight gain, not obese. Ignored multiple multiple problems because I had no period with Mirena.

6 mths ago high BP (154/94) noted at doctor's visit for a particularly bad headache. CAT scan revealed no reason for the intention tremor (finger to nose test) and dysdiadochokinesia (unable to shuffle left foot). Now I realise they are common symptoms of brain lesions or MS, at this stage I was still blissfully unaware of Mirena's horrendous damage potential!

Meds tried:
Mirena still inserted - Dr refused to remove;
#1 perindopril;
#2 candesartan;
#3 nifepedine;
BP rose to 160/100 and pulse 100+.
Symptoms: Palpitations, rash on cheeks, clammy sweat, unable to breathe, weakness, chest pressure, racing and generally felt like was going to die while taking above meds. 2 visits to ED.

changed clinic as I did not want to die just yet: Worst reading 214/186 on nifepedine 30mg.
Mirena removed;
#4 atenolol; (pulse low when combined with alprazolam)
#5 moxonidine - Head crush / headaches I refuse to take;

Been on atenolol 25mg for 4 months but now bp is 128/73 to 171/97, up until two weeks ago it was pretty good with no high readings so maybe the spikes you were talking about?

Nile, I found your where you altered your atenolol dose, did you do this yourself? I have a fair bit of flip floppy heartbeats when I wake some mornings, previously was on 50mg of atenolol when pulse dropped to 40, I was taking alprazolam at the same time which I think depresses your heartrate.

Any further help would be much appreciated. I really don't like this as my maternal grandmother died of a stroke when she was only a few years older than me.

Thanks Bev :)
