Many types of dysbiosis can cause a coating on the tongue. If it didn't clear up with antifungals then I'd be inclined to agree with your doc.

My coated tongue greatly diminished when I started taking betaine HCL with every meal. If I slack for a day or two it comes right back. Antifungals did nothing for it.
