I have been reading posts on this forum for several months, and I'm hoping that you can help me. I have had persistent pinworms for about 4 months. None of the treatments I have tried have worked. I began with taking parastroy, then pin-x (total, I have taken about 4 bottles of pin x), some of the herbal remedies, then I got a prescription for mebendazol. I then ordered 30 mebendazol 100 mg tabs from the internet and was taking two a day. These attempts would alleviate symptoms for a while, maybe 4-5 days, then the sensations would come back. After my first dose of Pin X I had seen the pinworms in the toilet - lots of them. In the beginning I also got the vaginal infection, which went away on its own. Anyway, I then saw an infectious disease specialist. I got a prescription for albenza. I took 200 mg every two weeks for a total of 3 doses. The albenza has worked the best so far. I was sympton free till the end of the two week period each time I took it. I plan on making another apt with the infectious disease specialist, though I am skeptical about him being able to help since I have seen so many posts on here about doctors being of no help. The doctor tested a stool sample, which came back negative (as I expected it would) and I believe that he will now want to do a tape test. He had saidb the next step would be to make sure I even had pinworms (which I am certain I do...and I had them as a child and it's the exact same sensation - a sensation I could never forget). Anyway, if the doctor is not able to help me, I am on my own. Has ICU's albenza protocol been effective for many people? Or is there something else I should try? I prefer taking the drugs over the herbal remedies, as I want to kill these things asap. Any suggestions for catching a pinworm so I can prove to my doctor that I'm not crazy? I could really use some help! This has been making me so depressed.
