it sounds like you need a new GYNO
first off if your culture does not grow YEAST and they cant see yeast under the microscope than you may only have BV
in which case those yeast infection creams are going to make that sooo much worse!
If you do have BV and yeast at the same time your best bet is boric acid suppositories. But you need to be careful with those.
about 600 mg suppositories once a night for 14 days. I would use extra virgin coconut oil on your vulvar skin to protect it from the boric acid, as it can irritate- but it works
as far as probiotics
for BV the ONLY proven probiotic for that is FEM-DOPHILUS
it works- I use it... its amazing
its not a high dose pro-biotic, its simply made for the vagina.
you can go to vitaminshoppe.com or amazon.com to buy it.
You take it 2 times a day.
The makers suggest you can use it vaginally twice a day for BV and it will resolve bacterial vaginosis.
also you need to understand BV is not really an INFECTION per say- its an IMBALANCE of your vaginal flora, and your pH in there is off.
STOP USING anti fungal creams in/around your vagina if you have BV it will only make it worse.
as far as antibiotic- i would try and avoid those, but if needed and your BV is out of control
than you should ask for TINDAMAX
you take that only for 5 days, only once a day
less side effects than Flagyl and works better
but at the same time you need to take fem-d and also another good probiotic for your GUT would be recommended. One with NO FOS, and has billions of live organisms. I personally like Jarrow formulas. Or Metagenix.
But you need to make sure its really yeast
it is possible to have both yeast and BV at the same time
or if you treat BV you can than get yeast if your treating it with an anti biotic....
and have a ping pong effect.
one thing is do not douche- it sets up a major imbalance.
I don't care who recommends it- it only makes things worse
and don't stick a lot of unproven methods in the vagina, that will only make it worse as well!
If i were you and your unsure- call your doctor and ASK-"exactly, what did my culture grow? yeast or BV or both?"
did they look under the microscope as well?
BV does produce many of the SAME symptoms yeast does
burning/itching/discharge
and if they ONLY looked inside your vagina and said it looked like yeast- it may not be yeast... it may simply be BV
also have they tested you for GROUP B STREP vaginitis or other bacterial infections there?
some bacterial infections can cause cottage cheesy looking discharge as well! That happened to me when i had group b strep over growth many years ago- i didnt have any yeast/candida at that time
just simply GBS in my vagina
