That's fine if you feel that way. Spiritual to me means close to Self. I like to take God out of the picture altogether. God loves us unconditionally, no matter what we do...so instead of trying to please God (who doesn't see what we're doing anyway), try to focus only on Self for the best Fast, and particularly when Dry Fasting. The feeling is Awesome.....WY
P.S. Focus on the "Sea of Forgetfulness" when dealing with self-punishment. Love yourself first. Then, and only then, you're ready to start Loving others.
