re: diatomaceous earth rubbed on the skin, and ...bleeding, well,
this sounds a bit extreme.(I did not realize you were so firm in maintaining your own impressions about this-- Since I only had Water's post of yours to guide me. I thought you also were somewhat "open"...But I misread you.
Sorry. And this IS your forum;
where I have suggested many people come, because I trust others to your care: knowing that you have integrity, respect for a lineage, (as do I) and wisdom, that comes from experience, and not only research--which can, as you will acknowledge, always be skewed to fit the requirements.)
Still, you might be interested in this: I mixed DE with some grapefruit pulp today, after carefully straining my juice of all its pulp, just enjoying the colour, and musing on making grapefruit seed extract, and wondering if you have tried this...(I was pretty excited
about my juice pulp crackers and "bread" made from yesterday's juice and wanted to share that with some like-minded souls: was going to post here, but then i got the feeling I should not. That it was too "off-topic"...
So, I made a masque, on intuition, of the DE and grapefruit pulp, and spread it on my face and neck. And massaged it in. And then when it dried, i wet and rubbed it quite vigorously, and rinsed. And, no blood. Skin feels and looks good. feels 'fed'. I also drank about a tsp. with some juice, followed by lots of water, as one would do with bentonite.
I'm not sure what you are referring to with this rubbing of DE into the skin, nor why,( for I'm not sure it has any relation to how it behaves wet, and in the body). Not the food-grade, I would imagine. It is soft as talc.
And that is important: the grade. Just as you would not rub marble grit into your skin. But DE is more bio-available than marble... Well, you could do, to polish it. It depends on grit. And use.
But -and this is important I feel, since there seems to be a tug-of-war that's arisen here, between what's "natural" and what's not, and perhaps a feeling of a need to man the gate- nor would you want to rub dry, mature (I don't know the precise specifics, but the older stuff is rough)ground horsetail into your skin, because it too, would abrade. It's like glass, on its edges. Silica. The older stuff,that is.

My trepidation over the DE internally - and this is just being totally honest, because I satisfied myself about the DE NOT cutting up my innards- was that I actually don't feel so good about "killing" anything.
Even a parasite, no matter the size. I just don't have that mindset, anymore. And curiously perhaps, I don't feel bothered by them, either. I'm not sure if this is connected...but can guess it may be.
I don't like the idea of DE in my potted plants, either, except maybe underneath, as a form of supplement the roots can access. (I ended up using a lot of the non-food grade someone gave me in an urn I put incense sticks in, just as some people use rice.) I want to come to a symbiosis with the natural world, with all life, and include all life in prayers, down to the smallest. What can we do as regards our prayers, but pray that all things come to light, ( and maybe dissolve into it?) which is about the finest 'source' we can 'perceive'.
Thus far, even after anti-parasite herbs of a few sorts, I've never seen a parasite. There might have been some in some liver and gallbladder flushes, which you will acknowledge many people still don't believe actually are 'real', (! :-) !) but I've never seen one. So, maybe my parasites are all the invisible sort.
PS It's always nice to converse with you.
best, C
