Hello NigelRowan,
As hghbuzz says in an excellent post, I too am no expert.
Hghbuzz mentions "fonty and Mighty Sun Tzu": both have been consistent high quality posters here. Well worth the read.
Like you I hope the mods don't mind dry fast (DF) talk here.
I am in the middle of about 6/7 days dry fasting at the moment. I use DF's to control inflammation of the arteries/BP. Excellent for that. Initially I started with water fasting. Quickly I went to dry fasting which suits me better. Learning all the inflammatory foods for me is longer and more difficult than I thought.
It should be noted that thinking of Fasting as a "cure for X" is probably naive. The body heals itself according to what the "body" feels it need repair/heal whenever. In all things the "body" will determine its balance. To think otherwise is folly.
I suspect physiology, preparation and environment play a vital role for DF's. Granted your health issues a couple of longer "water to demand" fasts may help you more initially. Once you are on the recovery road I suspect dry fasts would help maintain and further that process. All conjecture, based on what I suspect the repairs processes may involve . I also suspect that talking of a 3X benefit doesn't apply nearly as much if the DF is short. Again conjecture.
Other things which may be issues:
Make sure you are a diaphragmatic nose only breather at all times. Become aware of your perspiration: I suspect that having a "clean" body means I perspire less. Again a conjecture. Also excellent diet, low stress and physical condition always play some role.
Please feel free to discuss this. AS my post suggests there are many conjectures.
All the best T2.
