I don't think it's any more harmful than eating any other bad fruit or nut - might give you a gut ache and some unpleasant digestion symptoms, but more harmful on your taste buds than anything! Still, try to avoid fermented/rancid nuts if you can. I can't see them being any good for you (unless you're making coconut kefir)...
