"The release of mercury VAPOR during drilling is very minor and the use of high speed suction which is standard procedure negates this to nothing."
Personal anecdote. Last fall I had my last Amalgam filling replaced, in an upper tooth. While I was sitting in the chair waiting for the dentist, the assistant asked me if the little fan blowing on me was too cool. I said, Yeah it kinda was and she turned it off... So they put the rubber dam in my mouth. This seals off your mouth and forces you to breathe through your nostrils. So the entire time he was drilling, what was it 90 seconds? 2 minutes? this plume of vapor is funneling upward as I breathe exclusively through my nose, kinda like that thing smokers do to amuse themselves. When I looked in the mirror when I got home I had the darkest bags under my eyes I had ever seen, and for the next 2 days I felt absolutely awful.
This "high speed suction" that is standard procedure, I didn't see that - is it something the assistant holds? I don't remember what she was doing. I doubt that it's built into the drill.
I think I'm more sensitive to heavy metals due to the state of my liver and kidneys...
