You might want to have your circulation checked. Have you ever had a history of clots? If you are having pain in your carotid artery, you should have your circulation checked and be checked possibly for clots. My husband had a clot in his calf a short while ago and his leg was extremely painful. That is only how we knew. He got it after having surgery on his ankle. His leg sometimes felt hot and he would easily feel weak. Hope this helps you somehow.
