Acute pancreatitis can occur for many reason but the actual cause in most cases are (around 60%) are never established and can result in unnecessary examinations, surgery and treatment. A high proportion of attacks are caused by Gallstones (often small ones) snagged in the valve that connects the bile duct to the gut. colonic obstruction caused by compacted faecal matter is sometimes present. An attack commonly last between 3 and 7 days. There may never be another attack. A listed cause is estrogens which are high in mothers with new babies but usually decreases with breast feeding.

It may or may not be related to being a new mum or Liver Flushing as it sometimes just happens. The medical profession are unclear themselves in most cases of acute pancreatitis.
