If it were a stranger standing by that car
would it have made the same impression on you?
Would you have even remembered the dream?

I had to smile when I read your comment about trivialize.
Back in 2004 I used the same word in connection to the phrase "been there done that".
No one else can know/experience how much you hurt.
Pain is very personal.
You identify with your pain to the extent that it has become a part of you. Like losing an arm or leg, who would you be without it?

Perhaps that is what this dream is asking you.
