I'm currently on day 3 of my (planned) 7-day water fast. Days 1 and 2 have been the worst so far- I was so weak that getting dressed was a huge challenge, and I had to take afternoon naps- which I NEVER do. This morning I felt a lot better, and even managed to do some gentle resistance/bodyweight exercises, which boosted my energy considerably for a few hours.
I should probably add that I'm not doing this for weight loss. I'm currently around 121 pounds (55kg) and 5'8" (19 y.o. female), so I realise that wanting to lose weight is unhealthy, although I suppose some weight loss is inevitable. Hopefully I'll gain it back once I start eating well again. My main motivation for doing this is to break some pretty bad eating habits. In the last few months I've been binging a lot (including the day before the fast- and I sure paid for that :-/), but haven't gained weight because I've then restricted. I'm worried that if I don't break the cycle now, I will end up with a full-blown eating disorder.
So my plan is to break my fast with juice and fresh fruit to begin with, and eventually wean myself onto vegetables, wholegrains, legumes, eggs and dairy (I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian all my life). I may end up cutting it short on day 5, since I'm working for six hours the next day in a cafe, and I don't want to risk blacking out on the job! But if I can make it through that- and I will certainly try- then I think I'll make the full seven days, since on day 7 I have nothing scheduled and can relax at home.
I'm hoping- or deciding, I should say- that this will be the new leaf I need to get back into healthy eating- which had never been a problem for me, up until recently. Although I've always loved food, and am very grateful that my youthful metabolism has allowed me to enjoy it in generous portions thus far! ;)
I guess the main questions I have relate to energy levels- I realise it's different for everybody, but should I expect to have enough energy on day 6 to be able to work 9-3? Also, I haven't yet experienced dizziness when standing suddenly- is that likely to happen later on? I have fairly low blood pressure so I'm surprised it hasn't happened already...
Uh. Long post. Apologies- I'm kind of doing this on my own, so I needed to get it out there somehow :P
