That's my take on it~ although I have never done it. I do recall conversations here where people have mixed their Lugol's in juice and the color disappears~ that would be the Iodine reducing to iodide.

And yes, according to many sources(Brownstein, most notably), the thyroid utilizes ioDIDE.
